Johnny To's ELECTION : Originally 3hrs long (HK)

MonkeyPeaches has some nice info and links on Johnny To's newest that's debuting at Cannes right now.  For one, the original length was 3hrs long (2parter) and was edited down to 101 min for Cannes.  That means, hopefully, by the time I get to see it (on DVD, natch), I should be able to see the full-length version.

The MonkeyPeaches page has nice links to some pix, and two reviews, including the Hollywood reporter one and one from AICN (which barely qualifies as a review, more like a marginally lucid highschooler typing).

Here's a nice excerpt from the Official Cannes ELECTION Page regarding the length:

Johnnie To on the length of his film: "The initial version was over three hours long, but I decided to edit it down until I had a film about 90 minutes long. I didn't want Election to be too long. In fact, I said all I had to say about the triad in the final 90-minute cut you saw." Simon Yam on the length of the film: "I'm not sorry that certain scenes where I acted ended up on the editing room floor. In my opinion, it's already an honor for me to have had a role in a film directed by Johnnie To. I have total confidence in him and his work. He alone can judge what should be shown to the public. Maybe the three-hour version of the film will be available on the DVD."

So I guess I'm left hoping for BOTH versions to be available on DVD...
